TOUKAI SHITORO YAKI



This piece is made at the Hoetsu Kiln, one of the Shidoro ware kilns in Shimada City, Shizuoka Prefecture.
It was fired using local Shidoro clay, which is high in iron, resulting in a slightly greenish hue.

Shirahata Houetsu

1925: Born.
1946: Apprenticed under Fujio Koyama of
   the National Museum.
1949: Established the Hoetsu Kiln.
1978: Member of the Shizuoka Prefectural
   Craftsmen Association.
1993: Received the Shizuoka Prefecture
   Outstanding Skills Award.
2013: Selected as a "Contemporary Master
   Craftsman."
2014: Received the Yellow Ribbon Medal.
2020: Passed away.
